In the automotive world, concept cars tend to be precursors to the brand’s next new model. For Mitsubishi, this means showing off a brand-new plug-in hybrid vehicle that is sure to shake up the hybrid crossover segment. The Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II is a crossover vehicle that first debuted in Tokyo back in 2013. Now, though, it looks like Mitsubishi is looking to make it production ready.

The Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II debut offers an insight into what could possibly be Mitsubishi’s next urban crossover. The concept car offers a sophisticated silhouette with sleek bodylines and masculine angles. According to the Japanese carmaker, the plug-in hybrid powertrain system includes an electric motor than generates 160 horsepower and is powered by a 12-kWh battery. There is no news yet as to what the gasoline engine component of the vehicle is, but we can imagine that it would be fairly powerful.
