California is home to some of the most impressive natural beauty in the continental United States. There are more road trips to take in the state than we can fit on a single list, so here is more about the one that is generally considered to be the best road trip in California: State Route 1.
State Route 1 stretches most of the length of California along the shores of the Pacific Ocean, and most of it is considered to be either Pacific Coast Highway, Cabrillo Highway, or Coast Highway. Because of its natural beauty and cultural significance, State Route 1 has been recognized as an All-American Road.
Although it’s possible to join in on the highway at any point throughout the state, many people decide that they want to travel the entire length of the highway. For those that do travel the length of the highway, they travel through the best that California has to offer.
Some of the sites that travelers get to see are San Diego, Huntington Beach, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez Wine Country, Hearst Castle, Big Sur, Monterey and Carmel, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco.
No matter what your budget is, there is a way to travel the highway. Some people choose to stay in luxurious hotels on the coast, while others prefer camping as they go. You will be hard pressed to find landscape as beautiful as this anywhere else in the USA.
