Parents are always on the hunt for the safest, affordable vehicles for their teens, and now the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is weighing in. As an independent agency that aims to make the roads a safer place, there are few more knowledgeable experts able to make the call. This year, the Mitsubishi Outlander and Outlander Sport made the list.
83 percent of parents who bought their teenage driver a used vehicle. Taking that into account, the IIHS searched for vehicles ranging from $2,000 to $20,000 in price. Other requirements included that the vehicle must be bigger than a midsize sedan, electronic stability control must come standard, the engines can’t rock the road, and the vehicle must satisfy safety score requirements.
Of all the qualifying small SUVs, the Outlander and Outlander Sport top the list. Priced at $10,700 and $6,900 respectively, 2014 and newer Outlanders and 2011 and newer Outlander Sports make for a perfect used vehicle for teens.
“As top sellers and leaders in reliability for the brand, the Outlander and Outlander Sport offer sound reassurance for parents searching for a car for their teen that is both safety conscious and engineered with precision,” said Don Swearingen, COO and executive vice president of Mitsubishi Motors North America.
We here at El Cajon Mitsubishi are happy to see the Outlander and Outlander Sport bringing safety to the road!
