Mitsubishi has been recognized as the fastest growing non-luxury car brand in America after its best sales year in a decade and a fifth consecutive year of sales growth. After selling over 100,000 units in 2017, Mitsubishi had the highest sales growth percentage in a December report from Wards Auto.

Mitsubishi’s success this year can largely be attributed to its impressive lineup of crossover utility vehicles, including the Outlander and Outlander Sport; the Outlander alone sold over 35,000 units, increasing its sales 32.9 percent since last year.

Mitsubishi also saw a boost in December thanks to its release of the Outlander Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), and the brand expects the Outlander PHEV as well as the new Eclipse Cross mid-size crossover to continue to draw in customers in the 2018 sales year.

The Eclipse Cross will hit showrooms in March, and the Outlander PHEV is already shipping out to dealerships. Mitsubishi executive vice president Don Swearingen says that the addition of the Eclipse Cross and Outlander PHEV to their CUV lineup will give Mitsubishi “a family of CUVs that is unmatched in the industry.”
