Could it be? Could we really be getting a brand-new Mitsubishi Mirage, this time in the form of a subcompact crossover? We peered into our crystal ball (in other words, a Japanese auto magazine), and the answer seems like “yes.”

Reports indicate that American drivers will have access to the Mitsubishi Mirage crossover SUV by 2020. This vehicle would replace the Mirage in its current incarnation as a standard subcompact and would be a direct competitor in size, performance, and capability to vehicles like the Nissan Juke and Ford EcoSport.

This category-shift wouldn’t be a first for Mitsubishi. The Mitsubishi Eclipse, once a two-door coupe, underwent a similar transformation and became the incredibly popular Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. Could the wild success of the Eclipse Cross be the inspiration for the Mitsubishi Mirage crossover? We’re just making educated guesses here at El Cajon Mitsubishi, but this seems like a likely scenario, and a smart choice to boot. Americans are buying more crossovers and SUVs than any other type of car. Having more options that highlight athleticism and capability will strengthen the Mitsubishi brand here in the States.

While the Mitsubishi Mirage crossover isn’t a “definite” just yet, all of us here at El Cajon Mitsubishi are looking forward to seeing these sure-to-be beauties on the streets and in our showroom.
