You may have had wings, chips and salsa, and Chex mix at your Super Bowl party, but many people around the country enjoy the big game with a delivery from their favorite pizza shop. Actually, it’s the biggest pizza delivery day of the year. Makes you feel a little sorry for the delivery guys who don’t get to watch the game, doesn’t it? However, one delivery guy had an exciting Game Day experience as he teamed up with Mitsubishi and its #ProtectThePie social media campaign.

John Francis, who works for Boston’s DaCoopas Pizza & Subs, faced a long night of deliveries on Super Bowl Sunday. As if missing the game wasn’t bad enough, Francis had to face the effects of winter storm Juno, which left Boston’s streets covered in snow and ice. Mitsubishi saw this as a job requiring the 2015 Outlander GT, “one of the safest CUVs on the road,” to help Francis make his deliveries.

During the game, live tweeting and social posts kept fans interacting with Mitsu using #ProtectThePie. In addition, Francis didn’t have to make his deliveries alone as a video crew followed his route, watching as the Outlander sacrificed its new-car smell to keep Francis and the pizzas safe throughout the night.

“Protecting the things that you love is very important to Mitsubishi Motors,” said William Gelner, Chief Creative Officer for 180LA, Mitsubishi’s ad agency. “Though #ProtectThePie is a light-hearted nod to that message, it still drives home the larger, central message of safety.”

The Outlander has been named a Top Safety Pick+ vehicle by the IIHS and offers advanced technologies including Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Forward Collision Mitigation.
